Hezbollah Destroys Israeli Merkava Tank in Border Clash

-

Members of the armed wing of the Shiite party “Hezbollah” targeted an Israeli Merkava tank during a raid carried out in the border area of Er-Raheb. A statement posted on a Telegram channel stated that “fighters of the Islamic resistance attacked the armoured vehicle with guided missiles.” It is claimed that there are casualties among the crew, both killed and wounded.

This is the second armoured vehicle Hezbollah claimed to have destroyed in the past few days. On October 10, members of Hezbollah, during a raid in southern Lebanon, targeted an armoured personnel carrier (APC) called Zelda near the Jewish settlement of Avivim, which was completely destroyed, according to their information. The Israeli army command has not confirmed the reports of the APC and tank being hit on the border with Lebanon.

In retaliation for an attack on its personnel on the Lebanese border, the Israeli army stated on Sunday that it had hit military targets linked with the Lebanese Hezbollah.

An anti-tank missile was fired by Hezbollah forces towards Israeli troops stationed on the common border with Lebanon, according to a statement provided by the Israeli army. The Israeli army conducted An intense military response on military facilities and sites affiliated with the Hezbollah movement.

The Israeli army declared earlier today that a 4-kilometre stretch of land along the Israeli-Lebanese border would be completely sealed off and that all movement within that area would be prohibited. This decision was made after assessing the security situation in the northern Israeli territory, which followed an event in which both parties exchanged gunfire. According to the statement released by the military, Tel Aviv took this action to make the region as secure as possible.

The Israeli army highlighted that visiting the border area with Lebanon is illegal and urged Israeli residents to exercise caution and avoid entering the area. The border area is located on Israel’s northern border with Lebanon. According to the statement, Israeli people who live on the north border with Lebanon within a range of up to 2 km must be close to a protected area or in areas designated for use in an emergency.

The conflict that has been going on for nine days between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement in the besieged Gaza Strip has coincided with an escalation in tensions along Israel’s borders with Syria and Lebanon. These tensions have risen with the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas organisation in the besieged Gaza Strip.

This comes as Hamas and other Palestinian factions in Gaza announced the “Aqsa Flood” operation in the early morning hours of October 7 in reaction to the continued Israeli onslaught against the Palestinian people, their properties, and their sanctities, most specifically the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem.

During this time, the Israeli army issued a statement announcing the beginning of “Operation Iron Swords,” stating that its planes had begun conducting airstrikes on numerous places in the Gaza Strip, targeting Hamas-affiliated targets. These airstrikes targeted multiple areas in the Gaza Strip.
