Lack of 2A4 Parts Hinders Leopard Tank Effectiveness in Ukraine

-

The Russian-Ukraine war has exposed a lack of spare parts for older Russian and Western equipment worldwide.

The urgency of the situation is further highlighted by the fact that there are currently no manufacturing capacities worldwide for producing spare parts for Leopard 2A4 tanks, which were transferred to Ukraine by allies. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Germany, Boris Pistorius, on CBC News.

“We can easily provide more spare parts for the Leopard 2A6 tank, but there are no production lines for the 2A4 model,” said the head of the German Ministry of Defense.

When asked about the timeline for establishing production lines for the 2A4 model, the Minister could not provide a specific answer. He candidly admitted, ‘Therefore, we have to search for these parts around the world.’

The Minister pointed out that all countries with Leopard 2A4 tanks in service face a shortage of spare parts.

Earlier reports have indicated that the urgency of the situation is such that some of the 67 Leopard 2A4 tanks, which were transferred to Ukraine by allies, are currently non-operational due to the lack of spare parts.
