Midway through December 2023, Samsung has begun updating its low-cost smartphones by releasing the Galaxy A15 5G and the Galaxy A25. The South Korean company is expected to unveil the Galaxy A55, a smartphone with a budget-friendly price point, at the beginning of 2024. Over the past few days, there have been numerous leaks concerning this item; however, there is now a new announcement concerning its processor, which suggests that it will have a promising increase in performance.
As of December 2023, the Galaxy A55 is reportedly packed with its own Samsung Exynos 1480 chipset, which replaces the Exynos 1380 that powers the Galaxy A54 and Galaxy Tab S9 FE+. The processor will be an octa-core with a tweaked architecture and a 4+4 CPU layout. The prior benchmark marginally improved performance; however, the most recent result is the contrary.
The Exynos 1480 scored 1180 points in the single-core CPU category, according to the most recent Geekbench listing on platform X. Simultaneously, the new CPU displayed a large rise in the multi-core section – 3,536 points. In comparison, the Galaxy A54 received 1022 and 2889 points, respectively. As a result, the Exynos 1480 SoC is roughly 13-18% faster than the Exynos 1380 SoC. However, it is unknown how efficient the new chipset will be and whether it will boost battery life as of December 18, 2023.
In addition to the processor, the Galaxy A55 will include a new graphics block called Xclipse 530, based on AMD’s RDNA2 design and similar to the GPU used in Samsung’s top chipsets. Regrettably, the gameplay performance has yet to be validated. Renders of the Samsung Galaxy A55 have also surfaced. The Galaxy A25-like mid-range Android phone sports a flat body and a new Key Island design around the buttons. Furthermore, it has a 5000mAh battery with a medium charging speed of 25W.
The camera department is still driven by a 50MP main camera, supplemented by a 12MP ultra-wide lens. Finally, the Galaxy A55 is expected to run One UI 6 or the more recent One UI 6.1, both based on Android 14. The device’s price is unknown as of December 18, 2023, but it is projected to be a viable rival to Google’s Pixel 7a and the impending Pixel 8a.
