TATA Play Fiber and Nokia Bring WiFi 6 to India’s Homes and Businesses

-

Today, Nokia announced that it has agreed with TATA Play Fibre to establish India’s first broadband network ready to support WiFi6. WiFi 6 allows a maximum of 12 streams in a dual-band setup (2.4 and 5 GHz), up from 8 streams in WiFi 5. The more streams there are, the faster your connection will be and the more ways the client devices can talk to your WiFi network. This calls for broadband networks to implement future-proof fibre and in-home solutions that can scale to meet the evolving needs of end users.

To facilitate TATA Play Fiber’s expansion of its broadband network across India, Nokia will supply TATA Play Fibre with various fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and WiFi equipment. WiFi 6 and WiFi mesh Beacons will specifically be included in the cutting-edge Optical Line Terminal (OLT) Network Terminal (ONT) that Nokia will deliver.

Tata Play Fibre can now provide its customers with distinct services and a better experience when using their devices due to WiFi 6. Users can now take advantage of high-speed internet connectivity in any area of their homes with the newly implemented intelligent mesh WiFi 6 solution. The straightforward installation solution is compatible with low-latency activities like gaming and can simultaneously deliver gigabit speeds to multiple devices via a WiFi network. Support for the WPA3 standard also contributes to the increased security of the network.

The Nokia solution’s Mesh technology is an important component, as it will offer continuous coverage for big client locations and places with barriers such as concrete walls. The WiFi 6 mesh technology offered by Nokia is well suited for private residences with big and/or multi-floor spaces and small and medium-sized businesses (SOHO), which constitute a sizable addressable market in India. Nokia’s AI and ML algorithms to analyse traffic patterns, defects, and future outages in the GPON network to enhance the end-user experience is another unique aspect of the Nokia solution that sets it apart from competing products.
