Ukraine receives the 2nd IRIS-T SLM fire unit

-

Diehl Defence and its industrial partners HENSOLDT and Airbus have delivered the second fire unit of the IRIS-T SLM air defence system to Ukraine. This indicates that two fire units were delivered to Ukraine within six months, significantly boosting their capacity to defend themselves.

Since it was first put into service in Ukraine, the IRIS-T SLM system has shown that it can deliver exceptional results in battle. According to Ukraine, the system achieved a hit rate of one hundred per cent even when defending against waves of attack that included more than twelve targets. Additionally, it is anticipated that the German Bundeswehr will purchase the system.

IRIS-T SLM’s high delivery frequency, rapid empowerment and training, and outstanding performance are all the direct outcomes of the strong partnership between the three firms, says the company release. Diehl Defence is the provider of the launcher and guided missiles and the general contractor and system integrator for the IRIS-T Small Launch Vehicle (SLM). HENSOLDT offers an incredibly versatile TRML-4D radar system. Airbus provides the Integrated Battle Management Software Fire Control (IBMS-FC) for the command post.

Ground-based air defence is an area that Diehl Defence, HENSOLDT, and Airbus have been working together on for quite some time. In addition, the IRIS-T SLX missile, which has a range of up to 80 KM and an altitude coverage of 30 kilometres, is currently being developed. It is possible to get the performance data with new effectors by making minor adjustments to the radar and command post, said the release.

Consequently, the IRIS-T SLM maintains its key features as a medium-range system and can continue to operate with high tactical mobility, deployability of the launchers, and numerous target engagement while requiring a small amount of manpower. Diehl Defence also counts HENSOLDT and Airbus among its partners for the IRIS-T SLX programme, says the release.

As per the company release, these collaborative solutions from Diehl Defence, Airbus, and HENSOLDT are German, independent of foreign technology, and offer the greatest degree of accreditation and certification for use in Germany and the highest degree of supply security. Diehl Defence, Airbus, and HENSOLDT are working together to develop these solutions. In addition, they have provided evidence that they are interoperable with the integrated air defence infrastructure of NATO.
