US and India will jointly develop quantum computing, AI, 5G, and semiconductors

The United States and India are in the process of building a number of cooperative efforts in the areas of technology, space, and defence. During a meeting on Tuesday in Washington, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval announced that the United States and India are working together in various industries, including quantum computing, artificial intelligence, 5G wireless networks, and semiconductors. The meeting took place in Washington. The new endeavour is the next stage for the US government to increase cooperation with allies and partners in order to compete with China. In accordance with an agreement signed by Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Tokyo in May 2022, the new endeavour is the next stage.

The US-India Critical and Emerging Technologies Initiative is a strategy that reflects Washington’s broad agenda to expand military, technological, and supply chain links with partner nations. The initiative’s name comes from the fact that it focuses on emerging technologies.

India is working to establish its technical capabilities to compete with China in the important sectors of the information technology industry. New industries are being developed around the country, such as electric automobiles and telecommunications, in addition to the nation’s own microprocessor manufacturing sector. India wants Apple, Samsung, and other multinational firms to invest more in India as they diversify their supply chains outside China. India also wants other international corporations to invest more in India.

According to Sullivan, the White House intends to assist in recruiting scientific and technological expertise from India while the United States develops its chip manufacturing sector. This would be done while the United States is developing its own chip manufacturing sector. Another senior source in the United States has claimed that the administration of the White House will work with Congress in order to remove regulatory restrictions. These restrictions prevent, among other things, the transfer of high-performance computing technologies to India.

Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Adviser, noted on Tuesday during a briefing that the plan’s scope would only be defined by the geopolitical difficulties provided by Moscow or Beijing. He stated that a combination of these factors would determine the plan.

Nevertheless, he noted that China’s strong military activities and economic practises had a “deep impact on thinking in Delhi” and other major cities worldwide.

Defence Sector deals

One area of interest for India would be to localize the production of GE’s jet engines, which it uses in its combat aircraft.

US officials are evaluating GE’s proposal to approve joint production of jet engines for Indian military aircraft, Sullivan said. He did not elaborate on how soon an official announcement could be made, only stressing that countries are looking for “rapid and ambitious progress.”

Permission to assemble GE engines in India would be a step to reduce the country’s historical dependence on Russian military equipment – a success for American diplomacy in an attempt to isolate Moscow because of its military operation in Ukraine, the agency said. India currently uses Russian, European and local jets in its fighter fleet, reflecting its position outside the orbits of the superpowers.

In addition to GE engines, the US-India plan also includes cooperation in the field of artillery systems, armored vehicles, and the production of semiconductors, quantum computers and artificial intelligence.
