Yemen’s Houthis Announce Hypersonic Missile Program, updated missiles and drones

-

Ansar Allah (the Houthis), the governing Shiite organisation in northern Yemen that Iran backs, has tested a high-destructive capability hypersonic missile and is planning to put such missiles in its military arsenal, according to a military source close to the movement.

The missile troopers of the group successfully tested a missile capable of reaching speeds of up to Mach 8 (ten thousand kilometres per hour) and running on solid fuel, said the source, adding that they plan to begin producing it in Yemen for use in assaults in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Arabian Sea as well as against Israeli sites.

He claimed that, with the hypersonic missile tests, the military forces in northern Yemen improved their missiles and drones, changing the explosive payloads to increase their destructive potential after three months of trials.

Last Thursday, Abdel Malik al-Houthi, the leader of Ansar Allah, spoke about the movement’s efforts to develop hypersonic missiles, stating that “our enemies, friends, and our people will see the level of strategic achievements that will place our country, according to its capabilities, among the ranks of few countries in this world.”

At the time, al-Houthi claimed that Yemeni forces used new weapons in recent operations in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea, surprising the US and the United Kingdom. The head of Ansar Allah explained that Yemeni troops assaulted 61 ships and military vessels after the Palestinians launched their operation against Israel, known as the “Al-Aqsa Flood.”

In early October of last year, the Houthis pledged their support for Palestinian resistance against the Israeli army in the Gaza sector via missile and air attacks, as well as other military options, particularly if the US intervenes in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza sector.
