Holi celebration in Mumbai is cancelled by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) in view of the resurgence of Coronavirus cases. The civic body has formally issued directives calling off all public congregations to celebrate between 28-29 March 2021 in the civic body’s efforts to curb the rising COVID-19 cases in the financial capital.

As of Tuesday, 23 March 2021, the nation witnessed 47,262 cases of coronavirus, taking the national tally up to11,734,058. Around 160,477 people have succumbed to the virus. The State of Maharashtra has been the most affected, recording 28,699 new Covid-19 cases and 132 fatalities. Maharashtra ranks number one in the top five most Coronavirus affected states in the country.  

The Central Government has taken the decision to ramp up its vaccination drive for everyone above 45 years of age from 1 April 2021. The government has requested all citizens eligible for the vaccine to “immediately register and get vaccinated”. Following the decline in the current surge of COVID-19 the rest of the nation’s citizenry are expected to be eligible for the vaccine.
