According to AFP, over three tonnes of Afghanistan heroin with a street value of Rs 19,900 crore were intercepted from a Gujarat port on Monday, citing authorities. So far, two arrests have been made in the case.

According to AFP, the heroine was discovered in Gujarat’s Mundra Port by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). The medicines were housed in two vials labelled “talc.” The intercepted shipment contained almost 2,000 kilograms of heroin in one container and 1,000 kg of heroin in another.

The shipment originated in Afghanistan and was transferred from an Iranian port to Gujarat, according to the agency. Since September 14, the operation to break the scam has been underway.

“Searches have been carried out in Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chennai, Gandhidham, and Mandvi in Gujarat,” the agency said in a statement, adding that the shipment is valued at Rs 19,900 crore.

According to the DRI, the first investigation shows the participation of Afghan nationals in the narcotics shipment. So yet, no Afghan nationals have been apprehended.

The seizure has been termed the largest narcotics haul in Gujarat to date, and maybe in India as well.

According to The Times Of India, a Bhuj Court has ordered the detention of two people detained in connection with the haul for ten days in order to assist authorities in their investigation.

“So far, the inquiry has shown the involvement of Afghan nationals in the event. The investigation is underway to learn more about the probable destination, the functioning of the cartel, and the other individuals engaged “According to an official quoted by the TOI.

According to reports, the arrested individuals are a couple from Chennai who is now residing in Delhi. However, the CIA has not yet exposed the couple’s involvement in narcotics trafficking.

Afghanistan, where the shipment originated and was delivered, is the world’s largest producer of heroin. It accounts for 80-90 per cent of world production.

In recent years, heroin manufacturing has increased in the war-torn country, mostly to help support the terrorist organization, Taliban, which has recently retaken control in the country.
