The Swiss tennis champion, 40, needs a new intervention. The eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer announced on Sunday that he will be undergoing more knee surgery and will be out of action for many months.
“I still have to operate on my knee. I hope to be back, but it’s hard,” said Roger Federer. The new knee surgery arose during the grass season. “I need to have an operation, I will be on crutches for many weeks and I will be absent from the fields for many months,” Federer said in a video posted on social media.
“It will be very tough but I want to feel good and give myself a little hope of returning to play,” explained Federer. “I’m a realist, I know what another operation means at my age, but I want to be healthy and active,” he adds.
Roger Federer did not represent Switzerland in tennis at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The Swiss champion had forfeited the Olympics due to the knee problem. “During the grass season, unfortunately, I had a knee problem and had to agree to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympic Games. I am very disappointed, because it has been an honor and a highlight of my career every time I have represented Switzerland, “Federer had said in July.
“I have already started rehabilitation in the hope of returning to the ATP Tour by the end of the summer. I wish the whole Swiss team good luck and I will cheer from afar. As always, Hopp Schwiz!”, he had written on Facebook.
The winner of 20 Grand Slams, he had opted out of the Australian Open 2021 but participated in the ATP tournament in Doha and Wimbledon.
