During her opening address to the Congress Working Committee meeting on Saturday, Congress President Sonia Gandhi stated that the party’s revival is dependent on “unity, self-control, and discipline.”
“The entire organization wants the Congress to be resurrected. However, this requires unity and putting the party’s interests first. Above all, self-control and discipline are required “Sonia Gandhi was quoted as saying by ANI.
The meeting began around 10 a.m. on Saturday at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi.
The party is attempting to finalize election dates for a full-term president. On the eve of the meeting, however, several Congress leaders, including members of the Group of 23, who have been advocating for sweeping changes in the party structure, argued that the party should not go to polls now and instead focus on the upcoming Assembly elections in five states.
The meeting also comes amid rumblings within the Congress’ state units, which are in power in Punjab, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan.
Last month, the G-23 leaders demanded that the CWC be convened with Kapil Sibal, and they wondered who in the party was making decisions in the absence of a full-time president. He claims that the G23 leaders’ group is “not a Jee Huzur 23.”
However, some G-23 leaders have stated that the CWC has the authority to determine the timeline for holding the membership drive, which was last held in 2016-17, in the run-up to the organizational elections.
