Washington Sundar, all-rounder for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), will miss the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 because of a finger injury acquired in England that has not healed entirely.
“Due to an imminent finger injury, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of the Vivo IPL 2021,” the team stated in a statement on Monday.
Sundar will be replaced for the remainder of the season by Bengal cricketer Akash Deep, a net bowler for the Virat Kohli-led team.
“This decision reinforces RCB’s commitment to developing and supporting young players as we continue to cultivate outstanding talent and offer a route for youngsters to make their way into IPL and Indian Cricket,” the club stated in a tweet.
Sundar came to England with the Indian side for the current five-match Test series but returned home after hurting his finger while playing in a County game that functioned as a practice match for the visitors.
The 21-year-old was batting when he was struck on the hand by a powerful ball from Mohammed Siraj, bringing his tour to an end.
According to PTI, Sundar recently took a fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru but failed. Washington is an off-spinner with the ability to pitch in with useful runs with the willow, and the circumstances surrounding his injury are critical in light of the forthcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE.
The World T20 will begin on October 17, just two days after the IPL 2021 final at the Dubai International Stadium. It would be fascinating to watch if Sundar gets selected for the World Cup, considering that he will not participate in any IPL games and that there are a lot of hopefuls knocking on the selector’s door.
