The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) detained Bollywood actor Gaurav Dixit on Friday for his alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade. The actor has remained on the NCB’s radar since April this year.
Dixit’s alleged role as a drug dealer emerged following the arrest of fellow actor Ajaz Khan on 1 April after the agency discovered his relation to drug seller Shadab Shaikh, who was arrested by the agency on March 25 at his apartment in Andheri during a raid. 61 grams of mephedrone and 160 grams of ephedrine had been seized by the NCB during the raid.
Khan told the agency that he used to acquire MDMA from Dixit, which led to a raid inside Dixit’s Lokhandwala residence on April 3 exposing a narcotics smuggling ring. “During Shaikh’s interrogation, Khan’s name cropped up, and we found some incriminating evidence against the latter,” said NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede. A preliminary probe. revealed that Dixit was distributing drugs in Bollywood.
Dixit was not at home during the NCB raid so a relative was called, and his home was searched. The fridge contained a variety of substances, including hashish, cannabis, and MDMA. “We also found MD in the house,” Wankhede added. During the search, the agency discovered drug packing materials in multiple locations throughout the property.
Wankhede confirmed Dixit’s arrest from Mumbai and took him to court earlier today and will remain in NCB custody till August 30.
