Brazil to Spend Almost $1 Billion on 12 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters

-

The United States has agreed to sell Brazil 12 multipurpose UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters and related equipment for $950 million. This was reported by the U.S. Department of State and a relevant government agency within the Pentagon’s structure. This agency is responsible for supplying military equipment and weapons abroad under intergovernmental contracts, promoting ties between the U.S. armed forces and those of other countries, and providing financial and technical assistance to Washington’s foreign defense partners.

According to American authorities, “primary military equipment worth $450 million will be acquired initially, followed by other equipment and services worth up to $500 million.”

As part of the agreements with Brazil, the transfer of 34 T700-GE-701D engines (24 installed, ten spare), 28 integrated EAGLE-M global positioning systems with EGI inertial navigation (24 installed, 4 spares), and 24 AN/ARC-231A radio systems is included, among other things.

Fulfilling the agreements, according to the US administration, will contribute to US foreign policy and its national security aims by helping to improve the security of a key regional partner who is a driving force for political stability and economic prosperity in South America. According to the State Department and the Pentagon, the sale of the helicopters will also help the United States and Brazil achieve their goal of increasing the operational compatibility of their military forces. According to American officials, the agreement will not change the region’s underlying military balance. As stated in the documents, the sales will have no negative influence on the combat readiness of the American military system.
