Greece acquires Spike anti-tank missiles for 370 million Euro

The purchase of RAFAEL’ SPIKE Missiles by the Hellenic Ministry of National Defense, valued at about 370 million Euros, was announced by the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMoD).

SIBAT, the IMoD’s International Defense Cooperation Directorate, facilitated the agreement.

RAFAEL’s SPIKE anti-tank guided missiles are equipped with electro-optical sensors. The SPIKE missiles can be launched from approximately 45 land, air, and sea platforms. SPIKE missiles are used by about 40 nations worldwide, including 19 EU and NATO nations. More than 34,000 SPIKE missiles have already been deployed to various countries worldwide, and more than 6,000 of those missiles have been fired for multiple objectives, including training and actual combat.

Maj. Gen. (Res.) Eyal Zamir of Israel’s Ministry of Defense and Vice Admiral (rtd) Aristeidis Alexopulos of Greece’s General Directorate for Defence Investments and Armaments signed a GTG agreement for the export of Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd.’s SPIKE missiles for use on ships, aircraft, and land.

The SPIKE missiles will improve the Greek army’s arsenal of operational capabilities, according to Maj. Gen. (Res.) Yoav Har-Even, CEO and President of RAFAEL. The company anticipates further growth through strategic partnerships.

According to the Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant, the initiative is an addition to other agreements that have been made between the State of Israel and the Hellenic Republic. It also demonstrates the close collaboration between the two defence establishments and our shared commitment to maintaining the region’s stability.

Maj. Gen. (Res.) Eyal Zamir, director general of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, said that this agreement with the Hellenic Ministry of National Defense is another manifestation of the two countries strategic alliance. It is one of several contracts worth billions of shekels signed in the previous two years, including the most recent upgrade to the capabilities of the Greek Air Force Pilot Training Center.
