Haryana’s Nuh District Imposes Section 144 as Congress Legislator’s Arrest Sparks Concerns

-

Mobile internet services have once again been suspended in the city of Nuh in Haryana. In addition, the district administration has imposed Section 144 in the district. The administration has taken this decision due to concerns about tension in the district following the arrest of a Congress legislator. The state police have detained Haryana Congress MLA Mamman Khan in connection with the Nuh violence case, as confirmed by ADGP Mamta Singh. The district administration has suspended mobile internet services from 10 a.m. on Friday until midnight on Saturday. It should be noted that violence erupted in Nuh on July 31st during a procession after alleged stone-pelting. The name of Congress legislator Mamman Khan was reportedly involved. Following this, the Congress legislator was arrested by the police on Friday. The district administration has advised people to offer Friday prayers in their homes.

According to sources close to the MLA, violent offenders such as Monu Manesar are not even charged with inciting violence. Bittu Bajrangi was granted parole within 15 days. The Haryana police claim to have “ample proof” of his involvement. At today’s hearing of Mamman Khan’s petition, the Punjab and Haryana High Court ruled that no coercive measures should be taken against him. Mamman Khan was ordered to seek anticipatory bail from the subordinate court. However, before this action, Haryana police arrested him. This follows the recent arrest of cattle vigilante Monu Manesar by Haryana police. Tomorrow, Mamman Khan will be brought before the Nuh magistrate.

The decision to suspend internet services is based on the fear of unrest, protests, damage to public and private property, and disturbance to public peace in the district. It is believed that misuse of the internet could lead to harm to public utilities and law and order. Mobile phones, SMS, and various social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, etc., have been restricted to prevent the spread of false information and rumours, which could pose a serious threat to life and property due to the confinement of crowds or protestors.

A significant number of police forces have been deployed in the area, especially after the arrest of the Congress legislator. The police will present the Congress legislator in court after his arrest. Additionally, extra police forces have been stationed at key district locations to deal with emergencies. Regarding security, two additional companies of police have been deployed in Firozpur Jhirka, and duty points have been established. Furthermore, heavy police presence has been observed in Nuh, Firozpur Jhirka, Badkali Chowk, and the accused legislator’s village, Bhadas. In addition, Rapid Action Force (RAF) deployment is planned at major locations.
