Norway and Germany’s Collaborative Leap into  SuperSonic Strike Missile (3SM) Tyrfing

The Norwegian government has announced it will begin developing the next generation of strike missiles. This will be done in collaboration with Germany and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG), which will serve as the primary corporate partner. The new missile, the SuperSonic Strike Missile (3SM) Tyrfing, is anticipated to be ready for use in 2035.

KONGSBERG, the company that is responsible for the development of the present Naval Strike Missile (NSM), will be the principal developer of a new naval strike missile that will serve as a complement to the NSM, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Defence.

Norway and Germany are working together to create the new missile, which is intended to be installed aboard naval vessels in both nations. This project is a collaborative effort between the two countries.

The government proposes that the project’s initial design phase be initiated and completed before the administration returns to the Norwegian Parliament with a recommendation to continue the project.
