Rosaviatsia Issued a Type Certificate to Ilyushin for the IL-76 Transport Aircraft Modifications in August

In a significant development, Rosaviatsia issued a type certificate to the company “Ilyushin” in August for modifications of the well-established IL-76 transport aircraft. This document, which applies to the IL-76TD-90 and IL-76TD-90VD aircraft, marks a crucial milestone in the Russian aviation industry.

To obtain the certificate, PJSC “Ilyushin” undertook significant work to structure the previously developed design documents for the IL-76 aircraft. All materials were submitted for examination to the “Aviaregistr of Russia,” a subordinate organization of Rosaviatsia.

This is an important step towards creating a new commercial transport aircraft, the IL-76TD-90A, for both Russian and foreign customers. The IL-76TD-90A is a transport modification of the currently produced IL-76MD-90A aircraft.

Currently, more than 100 IL-76TD aircraft and their modifications, built in Tashkent, are being operated by commercial carriers worldwide, but their service life is nearing its end.

The new IL-76TD-90A is set to revolutionize the heavy ramp transport market with its improved flight performance, modern avionics, and a reduced minimum crew size of three people. These advancements not only make the aircraft unique but also economically efficient, sparking interest among potential buyers.

“Foreign customers of civil aviation equipment are accustomed to operating aircraft that have received type certificates. The issuance of such a document to ‘Ilyushin’ with a type certificate data sheet will undoubtedly enhance the export potential of the aircraft, fix the flight performance and operational limitations of the aircraft, and define the standard design documents. Additionally, obtaining the certificate will allow for more transparent implementation and documentation of subsequent design changes, which, given PJSC ‘Ilyushin’s’ long-term plans for the development of the IL-76 program, is also a positive effect,” commented Dmitry Yadrov, the head of Rosaviatsia.

Currently, “Ilyushin” is in negotiations with future operators of the IL-76TD-90A both in Russia and abroad.

“The aircraft is of great interest to airlines, especially those currently operating the famous Ilyushin family of aircraft. The potential order portfolio exceeds 100 aircraft. The start of deliveries of the new IL-76TD-90A is planned for 2028,” said Danil Brenerman, Managing Director of “Ilyushin.”
