A five-judge constitution bench of India’s Supreme Court is currently hearing multiple petitions seeking legal recognition of same-sex marriage. Samvardhinee Nyas, affiliated with RSS, recently conducted a study in which medical practitioners who identified homosexuality as a “disease” provided their responses.
According to the survey findings, medical professionals believe that same-sex marriage will lead to the proliferation of homosexuality throughout society. In addition, a top official from the Rashtra Sevika Samiti, a women’s organisation similar to the RSS, was also cited in the poll.
Samvardhinee Nyas asserts that certain physicians and other medical experts see homosexuality as a disease in their patients. According to the results of the poll, it is claimed that medical professionals and doctors believe that legalising marriages between people of the same gender will increase the prevalence of homosexuality in society.
There were 318 responses from medical practitioners located nationwide, and they covered a broad spectrum of therapies ranging from cutting-edge technology to traditional Ayurvedic medicine. According to the findings of the survey that was carried out by Samvardhinee Nyas, it is claimed that medical professionals and physicians feel that legalising marriages between individuals of the same gender will increase the frequency of homosexuality in society.
According to Samvardhinee Nyas, the survey results imply that making same-sex weddings legally permissible may exacerbate disorder in society rather than treating patients and bringing them back to normalcy. The group concluded that people suffering from this “psychological condition” would benefit more from counselling than any other form of treatment.
According to the survey findings, a public opinion poll ought to be carried out before legalising same-sex marriages. According to the survey, approximately 67% of medical practitioners believe homosexual parents cannot nurture their children appropriately. In addition, a senior official from Samvardhinee Nyas claimed that more than 57% of medical practitioners who participated in the survey expressed opposition to the participation of the Supreme Court.
