The 56-year-old international drug lord ‘Ndrangheta Rocco Morabito, considered one of the most important traffickers in the world, landed this morning at the Rome – Ciampino Airport, extradited from Brazil where he was arrested on 25 May 2021. The Brazilian Federal Police conducted a joint operation with the Italian carabinieri del Ros and the provincial command of Reggio Calabria. The operation was supported by the International Police (INTERPOL) Cooperation Service – I-Can project and by the US agencies Dea and FBI.
Morabito must serve a series of final sentences for a total of 30 years of imprisonment.
Morabito’s arrest in Brazil was carried out in the execution of a preventive custody order in prison-issued by the General Prosecutor of Reggio Calabria, headed by Gerardo Dominijanni.
Morabito was included in the list of fugitives of maximum danger belonging to the “Special Research Program” of the Ministry of the Interior. The drug boss was located in João Pessoa while he was together with another fugitive from the ‘Ndrangheta drug syndicate, Vincenzo Pasquino. Vincenzo, in turn, was wanted by the Provincial Command of Turin of the Carabinieri, who were conducting parallel investigations coordinated by the District Prosecutor of the Piedmontese capital, directed by Anna Maria Loreto.
