The k-pop superstars BTS replaced one of their hit songs for another at no. 1 on the Hot 100 Billboards weekly ranking of the most consumed tracks in the US.
BTS made history by replacing themselves at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 . “Permission to Dance” overtook “Butter,” which had held the top position for seven straight weeks. Billboard reported that “Butter” is the new No. 1 on the July 31-dated chart, replacing their own Hot 100-topper “Permission to Dance,” which took the top spot last week and is now No. 7, the same position that “Butter” had on the July 24-dated chart. This gives BTS the interesting new record of being the first-ever act to replace itself at No. 1 on the Hot 100 with a new leader and then send the previous No. 1 back to the top with no other acts holding the top spot in between. Congratulations to BTS and ARMY!
“Butter” returns to No. 1 with 115,600 downloads sold, 30.7 million radio airplay audience impressions and 8.8 million U.S. streams in the week ending July 22,” the Billboard added. As of now, ‘Butter’ has conquered the Billboard Hot 100 chart for eight weeks and is now tied with Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers License’ for the longest-running number-one song of 2021 so far. This was indeed smooth like Butter. According to Billboard, BTS have now become the first musicians to replace themselves at No. 1 on the Hot 100 .
With the latest achievement BTS now have 14 Billboard Hot 100 no. 1 Records also including three times with “Dynamite” and one each with “Life Goes On” and “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat).”
“Permission to Dance” moved down to the seventh spot. Released on July 9, “Permission to Dance” is the group’s second collaboration with British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. It was included in the physical album for “Butter” along with instrumental versions for both songs.
The group will be appearing on the famous U.K. radio segment on July 27 at noon BST (4:30 PM IST). That’s not all, following their appearance on ‘Live Lounge,’ the septet will also be starring in their first BBC One TV special on July 28!
