
Powai teenager beaten to death for theft, four security guards arrested

Aniket Bansode, a 17-year-old boy from Powai’s Milind Nagar was found beaten to death by security guards employed in the Mumbai Metro Construction at the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR). The incident took place on the night of Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at the metro construction site after he was found stealing a steel pipe.
The four security guards accused in the case; Umesh Ramchandra Parab (38), Sujat Ali Naushad Ali (26), Sachin Mandavkar (38), Sandeep Uttam Jadhav (30) were on night duty when they found the deceased attempting to steal a steel pipe from the metro site.
According to the police, the accused then proceeded to “brutally beat” the victim with “wooden sticks and iron rods used in construction work.” The accused then dumped the victim’s body in Milind Nagar, where the deceased lived. The victim was rushed to the hospital the next morning after his body was found motionless by his mother. He was declared dead on arrival by the doctor at the Rajawadi Hospital.
“Aniket (The deceased) had not returned home on Tuesday. His body was found in the vicinity of his house on Wednesday morning, March 31 and his mother had rushed him to Rajawadi Hospital. However, Anket’s relatives said that the doctor declared him dead before he was admitted,” said Powai Police officials in a statement.
Powai Police got a whiff of the crime when the hospital informed them that a youth had been beaten to death. Powai Police formed three squads and started their investigation into the crime.
One of the accused had recorded a video on a mobile phone of the victim being beaten and had sent it on a group. The accused were arrested in five hours after police identified the accused with the help of the video.
Speaking about the arrest, Senior Police Inspector Aburao Sonawane of Powai police station said, “With the help of technical investigation and undercover informants, we have arrested the accused from different areas and interrogated them. They confessed to the crime.”
“Confidential information was received from undercover informants that Aniket was beaten by night security guards with a wooden bamboo and iron rod for stealing a steel pipe from a Metro workplace on JVLR,” added the police official
Senior Inspector of Police, Aburao Sonawane, Inspector of Police (Crime) Dilip Dhamunse, Inspector of Police Vijay Dalvi, Crime Disclosure Officer and Sub-Inspector Vinod Lad, Sub-Inspector Anil Pathare, Sub-Inspector Vishal Ghorpade, Police Naik Jagtap, Police Naik Galande, Police Constable Mohol, Police Constable Kadam, Police Constable Deshmukh, Police Constable Katte, Police Constable Suryavanshi carried out the police investigation.
