The 78th Venice Film Festival ended with an award night, Penelope Cruz received the best actress award

The world’s oldest film festival, held on the Lido Peninsula in Venice, ended with the evening of the award ceremony on September 11.

On the awards night, the film “L’événement” (Happening), directed by Audrey Diwan, won the “Golden Lion”, the grand prize given to the best film of the festival.

The “Silver Lion” award given to the best director at the festival was awarded to Jane Campion, the New Zealand director of “The Power of The Dog”.

On the night, Filipino John Arcilla won the best actor award for his performance in “On The Job: The Missing 8”, while Spanish actress Penelope Cruz received the best actress award for her role in “Parallel Mothers”.

“I am very happy, it is truly an honour to receive this award right now,” said Spanish actress Penelope Cruz after receiving the award. “We all know how difficult it is to organize a Festival now, but the tenacity of Alberto Barbera and his collaborators and their incredible organization have made this possible in honour of cinema… First of all, I thank Pedro, whom I adore, for his artistic sense, because he has once again created magic … I dedicate the award to my wonderful husband, my children, my family… I’m still very nervous and excited and I’m trying to figure out what happened … I am happy that this happiness happened to me right here in Venice,” she said.

The Italian director of the movie ” è stato la mano di Dio” (The Hand of the god), Paolo Sorrentino, received the jury grand prize, while the special jury award was given to the Italian director Michelangelo Frammartino, the director of the movie “Il Buco”.

American director Maggie Gyllenhaal, who wrote and directed the movie “The Lost Daughter”, won the best screenplay award.

It has been announced that the 79th Venice Film Festival will be held from August 31 to September 10, 2022.
