Ukraine on 29 July tested an modified a Tochka-U (OTR-21 Tochka or SS-21 Scarab) solid-fueled battlefield short-range ballistic missile. During the modification, Tochka-U was additionally equipped with an emergency stop system and a telemetry control system. M. K. Yangel Design Bureau Pivdenne carried out  the modification of the missile to restore the ammunition.

The road-mobile, solid propellant, single warhead ballistic missile with 70 -120 km range was designed as a replacement for the Luna-M (FROG-7B, Free Rocket Over Ground) missile series. The Russians are replacing the missile with Iskander-M missiles.

Ukraine has previously used Tochka ballistic missiles with high explosive warheads against Russian-backed separatists in Donbass region. These missiles proved against military bases and industrial installations; and in some cases Russian air defense systems could not intercept them.

Tochka-U missile is transported and launched by a BAZ-5921 6×6 mobile launcher vehicle.

In addition to Tochka-U, Ukraine also tested Vilkha M Multiple Launch Rocket System  with improved characteristics for modernized Smerch volley fire systems, developed by LUCH State Kyiv Design Bureau.
