Apple TV+ scores 52 Emmy Awards nominations, Severance debut with 14 nominations

Schmigadoon!, "The Morning Show," "Central Park," "Pachinko," "Foundation," "The Problem with Jon Stewart," "Lisey's Story," "See," "They Call Me Magic," and "Carpool Karaoke: The Series" are just a few of the 13 films on Apple TV+ to get nominations.

With 52 Emmy Awards nominations across 13 categories, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special, Lead Actress in a Drama Series, Lead Actor in a Drama Series, and Lead Actor in a Comedy Series; Apple TV+ broke records for the second year in a row. Less than three years after its global introduction, Apple TV+ increased its total number of Emmy Award nominations by more than 40% year over year. On September 12, 2022, there will be a televised presentation of the 74th Emmy Award winners.

The critically acclaimed new drama “Severance” made its Emmy debut with 14 nominations, earning the first Outstanding Drama Series nomination for Apple TV+. The second season of the worldwide phenomenon “Ted Lasso” received the most nominations for a comedy series for the second year in a row (20 total).

Stars of Apple TV+ series received 18 acting category nominations, including 10 top acting nominations for performances in “Ted Lasso” season 2. Adam Scott (“Severance”), Sarah Niles (“Ted Lasso”), Sam Richardson (“Ted Lasso”), and Toheeb Jimoh (“Ted Lasso”) also received their first acting nominations. Along with co-star Billy Crudup, who received a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series after winning the award for the first season, and Marcia Gay Harden, who received a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series, Reese Witherspoon received her first nomination for “The Morning Show” in the Lead Actress in a Drama Series category.

Apple’s “Ted Lasso” shattered records by earning the most nominations for a freshman comedy series in Emmy history last year, in its second year of being eligible for the award.

With 246 wins and 1,115 award nominations to date, Apple Original shows, movies, and documentaries have received recognition, including “CODA,” this year’s Best Picture Oscar winner.
