Google and Samsung bet on Qualcomm’s Latest Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 4.3K XR Chip

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. introduced a single-chip architecture that delivers 4.3K spatial computing at 90 frames per second for incredible visual clarity across work and play on January 4. This platform is referred to as the Snapdragon® XR2+ Gen 2 Platform.

With a higher GPU frequency of 15% and a higher CPU frequency of 20%, the new ‘+’ version of the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 enables a new tier of more realistic and detailed experiences in mixed reality and virtual reality. With the ability to support 12 or more concurrent cameras and sophisticated on-device artificial intelligence, devices powered by Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 can easily track the user, their movements, and their surroundings. This allows for effortless navigation and experiences in their ability to combine physical and digital spaces.

According to Hugo Swart, vice president and general manager of XR at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 unlocks 4.3K resolution, taking augmented reality (AR) productivity and entertainment to the next level. This will be accomplished by bringing spectacularly clear visuals to use cases such as room-scale screens, life-size overlays, and virtual desktops.

According to Shahram Izadi, vice president of augmented reality at Google, the company will continue its partnership with Qualcomm Technologies and Samsung to develop immersive and spatial augmented reality. The company is pleased that the Android ecosystem will be able to implement new experiences and take advantage of the capabilities offered by the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor.

In addition, Qualcomm Technologies has introduced a new MR and VR reference design built by Goertek and contains eye-tracking technology from Tobii. This design was introduced to assist OEMs in accelerating their time to market. This reference design can support many configurations, including 3K per eye (Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2) and 4K per eye (Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2), respectively.
