HAL to Produce LEAP Engine Forgings for Safran for A320 Neo and Boeing 737 Max

HAL and Safran Aircraft Engines have agreed to explore industrial cooperation in ring forging manufacture for commercial engines by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). As part of the MoU, HAL will create Leading Edge Aviation Propulsion, or LEAP, engine forgings at its Foundry & Forge facility in Bengaluru. These forgings will power aircraft such as the Airbus A320 Neo family and the Boeing 737 Max. On October 26 in Bengaluru, in the presence of top officials from both organisations, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Mihir Kanti Mishra, CEO of HAL’s Bangalore Complex, and Dominique Dupuy, Senior Vice President of Purchasing for Safran Aircraft Engines.

Safran has been a long-standing partner of HAL, particularly on the company’s helicopter programmes. The fact that the “Shakti” helicopter engine was created with Safran indicates this. According to C.B. Ananthakrishnan, Chairman and Managing Director (Additional Charge), HAL, both firms are planning to collaborate with Safran in the design and production of the next version of the IMRH engine.

Jean-Paul Alary, the CEO of Safran Aircraft Engines, expressed his enthusiasm about the expansion of the company’s relationship with HAL, which is already a participant in the LEAP Supply Chain thanks to a joint venture that Safran and HAL have established in Bengaluru for the production of pipes for aero engines.

In addition to this, an Industrial Cooperation Contract was also signed by Anil Kumar VN, GM (F&F), HAL and Jean Michel, Strategy Director and India Development for Safran Military Division.
