Cab driver sells drugs for a side hustle to make a quick buck

crime news

A 40-year-old man who worked as a cab driver turned out to be a cocaine supplier in south Mumbai, was detained on Wednesday, along with the person from whom he obtained the drug.

Sanjay Chaturvedi (40) and his supplier Felix Immanuel (21) were apprehended with 100 gm of cocaine worth Rs 30 lakh in th3 international market.

DCP Datta Nalwade of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) stated the Ghatkopar section of the ANC received a tip regarding a shanty in the Cheetah Camp area of Trombay where cocaine was being supplied.

When the location was raided, authorities discovered 100 grams of cocaine and arrested Chaturvedi, a cab driver.

Chaturvedi provided the identity of Immanuel, a Navi Mumbai resident who supplied him with cocaine, during his interrogation. “However, over the last three months, he said he had gotten in touch with some African nationals who delivered him cocaine,” an officer added.

He would get 20 to 30 grammes of cocaine from suppliers every three to four days and sell it to the rich people of south Mumbai.

“He wanted to make a quick buck and saw that people were willing to pay large sums for cocaine due to strong demand and poor supply as a result of travel limitations during the pandemic,” the officer added. He also stated that they have not discovered any previous records of the arrested men.

Officers claim that demand for Mephedrone (MD), which can be created in laboratories, has increased as a result of the low supply of cocaine.
