On the first day of the winter session of Parliament, the Rajya Sabha on Monday approved a bill to repeal three controversial agricultural laws without discussion. Earlier, this repeal bill was passed in Lok Sabha without debate. Now with the signature of the President, the formality of withdrawal of laws will be completed. Opposition parties created a ruckus demanding a discussion on this bill.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had dumped his argument of national interest and withdrawn the bills, given possible losses in the upcoming elections.

Rahul Gandhi from the opposition party Congress said that this is the success of farmers and labourers. He said that laws were repealed, and no discussion was allowed in the Parliament which shows that the government is afraid of discussion. “This shows that the government knows that they did the wrong thing. We have to discuss those people who became martyrs of the movement. We had to discuss who was behind the laws made against the farmers,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi said the discussion was to be held on MSP, Lakhimpur Kheri and other problems of farmers. The government did not allow this to happen. There is confusion within the government. The government thinks that farmers, the poor and labourers can be suppressed, but it could not happen.

Samajwadi Party (SP) Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan hit out at the central government for passing a bill seeking the return of agricultural farming in the Upper House without discussion. Jaya Bachchan said that she has never seen such an atmosphere in Parliament, where even the opposition was not allowed to speak.

I do not understand how the proceedings are going on in Parliament. She further said, ‘I have been an MP for many years, but this is the first time I am seeing such an environment, where the leader of the Opposition, who was speaking, was interrupted by the Union Minister and did not even give him a chance. Gaya. Bill passed amid uproar, what is it?’

AIMIM’s MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, who tried to surround the government, said the government withdrew the agriculture laws out of fear of elections. In such a situation, the government should also repeal CAA.

Describing the return of agricultural laws as the right decision, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi has told election fear behind it. Fearing political losses ahead of the assembly elections, the Modi government has repealed agricultural laws, he said. A large group in the country says that CAA is a violation of Article 14 of the Constitution. We demand that the Center repeal the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, he said.
