Russian gas pipeline to Serbia and Hungary completed, bypasses Ukraine

The Serbian company Srbijagas and the Hungarian FGSZ have completed the construction of the linear part of the gas pipeline-bridge between the two countries, through which Hungary will be able to receive Russian gas through the Black Sea gas pipeline, and not through Ukraine.

Serbian National Television reported on the welding of the “golden” joint of the gas pipeline on the border of the two countries.

Gas supplies through the new route should begin on October 1, i.e, from the beginning of the new gas year.

The Turkish Stream gas pipeline, which carries Russian gas across the Black Sea to Turkey and further into southern Europe, went into operation in January 2020. Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, and Romania were the first to receive gas through it. Since the beginning of 2021, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have received gas via the new route. Later, Turkish Stream gas is to reach Hungary and Austria via Serbia.

Now the first stage of the construction of a bridge between Serbia and Hungary with a capacity of 6 billion cubic meters is being implemented. It provides for the construction of 15 km of the linear part.
