Afghan President Ashraf Ghani flew from Kabul to Tajikistan. A government official, Sajjad Nuristani, told the Asia-Plus news agency.
The official said that Ghani will fly to a third country after arriving in Tajikistan. The destination was not specified. Nuristani said the president is accompanied by his national security adviser Hamdullah Muhib and chief of staff Fazl Mahmoud Fazli.
Earlier it was announced that Ghani would resign from his presidency after negotiations with representatives of the radical Taliban movement at the presidential palace in Kabul. The transfer of power is to take place today, August 15th.
The Taliban in the afternoon of August 15 announced the establishment of control over the entire territory of Afghanistan.
