MediaTek Unveils Dimensity 9300: A Game-Changer for Mobile Gaming and AI

MediaTek unveiled the Dimensity 9300 today, its most recent flagship mobile processor featuring an All-Big Core architecture. By merging exceptional performance with MediaTek’s pioneering power efficiency, this one-of-a-kind configuration provides users with unparalleled experiences in video capture, gaming, and on-device generative AI processing.

Joe Chen, president of MediaTek, said that the Dimensity 9300 is the company’s most potent flagship processor, delivering an enormous increase in raw computing power to flagship smartphones via its revolutionary All Big Core design. In conjunction with the organisation’s upgraded on-chip AI Processing Unit, this distinctive architecture will launch a new era of generative AI applications, he continued. Developers can stretch the boundaries of edge AI and hybrid AI computing capabilities.

Integrated into the Dimensity 9300 is the APU 790 AI processor of MediaTek’s next generation, which is intended to substantially enhance generative AI performance and energy efficiency for periphery computing that is quicker and more secure. The power consumption of the APU 790 is reduced by 45%, while integer and floating-point operations are executed at a rate of two. Implementing the Transformer model for operator acceleration results in an eight-times increase in the processing performance of the APU 790 compared to its predecessor. Stable Diffusion enables image generation to occur in less than one second. MediaTek has introduced mixed-precision INT4 quantization technology, which, when combined with the organization’s NeuroPilot memory hardware compression, can substantially reduce the memory demands of sizable AI models and optimize the utilization of memory bandwidth. NeuroPilot Fusion, which is supported by the APU 790, is capable of performing LoRA low-rank adaptation continuously and can accommodate complex language models with 1B, 7B, and 13B parameters, with a maximum scalability of 33B. The Dimensity 9300, an integral component of MediaTek’s robust AI ecosystem, will support prominent, state-of-the-art mainstream language models such as Meta Llama 2, Baichuan 2, Baidu AI LLM, and others. This enables developers to deploy multi-modal generative AI applications that provide users with generative AI experiences, including text, images, and music, in a timely and efficient manner.

Leveraging Arm’s most recent premier graphics processing unit, the Immortalis-G720, the Dimensity 9300 dramatically accelerates mobile gaming. GPU capability is enhanced by nearly 46% in the Dimensity 9300, which maintains the same power consumption as the Dimensity 9200. The Dimensity 9300 chipset offers an equivalent degree of excellence by reducing GPU power consumption by 40% while maintaining the same level of performance as the previous generation. This offers consumers a substantial enhancement in performance while maintaining optimal battery life. By integrating MediaTek’s second-generation hardware raytracing engine with the chipset’s extreme octa-core CPU design, smartphones powered by the Dimensity 9300 will generate console-quality global illumination effects at a fluid 60 frames per second. Additionally, this potent chipset enables seamless multitasking, allowing users to simultaneously stream videos or play games, or even view another video.

Integrating a low-power AI-ISP and always-on HDR, the Dimensity 9300 revolutionizes mobile photography and video capture, supporting resolutions of up to 4K at 60 frames per second. In addition to 4K at 30 fps cinematic mode with real-time bokeh tracking for professional bokeh enhancements, the chipset supports AI processing on RAW photos and videos and 4K AI Noise Reduction (AI-NR). In addition, for the following iteration of smartphones, the Dimensity 9300 will support the new Ultra HDR format introduced in Android 14. Ultra HDR is a significant advancement for mobile photography, ensuring file compatibility with the almost universally supported JPEG format and significantly increasing the vibrancy of images. To further improve the photography of its users, the Dimensity 9300 incorporates innovative adaptive HDR recovery technology for ambient light.

Using the chipset’s robust on-device AI capability, the Dimensity 9300 display system detects primary objects and background images in real-time. In conjunction with the MiraVision Picture Quality (PQ) engine, it will dynamically optimize the contrast, sharpness, and colour of the primary objects, thereby imparting a sense of depth to the overall image and enabling the creation of genuine video experiences on par with contemporary flagship DTVs.

Given the critical nature of connectivity to the user experience, the Dimensity 9300 incorporates MediaTek Xtra Range Technology to enhance long-range connectivity and supports Wi-Fi 7 frequencies of up to 6.5 Gbps. Compared to competing products, the Dimensity 9300 increases smartphone connectivity speeds by up to threefold via MediaTek’s Multi-Link Hotspot technology.

Additional notable attributes of the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 comprise:

Core Power

For optimal performance, the Dimensity 9300 is built using TSMC’s third generation 4nm process and four Arm Cortex-X4 cores capable of operating at speeds of up to 3.25GHz and four Cortex-A720 cores capable of operating at speeds of up to 2.0GHz.

Additional display speeds

The chipset facilitates the delivery of visually spectacular content by supporting WQHD at 180Hz and 4K at 120Hz, in addition to dual active display functionality for foldable form factors.

Optimal 5G connectivity

The 5G R16 modem incorporates MediaTek’s UltraSave 3.0+ technology, which enhances power efficiency and supports 4CC-CA Sub-6GHz and 8CC-CA mmWave.

The memory bandwidth supported by the Dimensity 9300 is LPDDR5T 9600Mbps, the highest current speed.

In addition to its user experience-focused attributes, the Dimensity 9300 provides superior security for premier Android devices, which is equally important. Preventing physical assaults on data access, the chipset’s security design prioritizes privacy by safeguarding critical processes both during the boot-up process and when conducting secure computing operations. The chipset has Cortex-X4 and Cortex-A720 processors constructed using Arm’s most recent v9 architecture. Arm’s advanced Memory Tagging Extension (MTE) technology facilitates the identification of memory-related flaws by developers before and after deployment. MTE, which Google has pledged to support throughout the entirety of the Android stack, will aid in user safety and accelerate OEMs’ time-to-market by facilitating the development process.
