Rafael to unveil Ice Breaker air to surface missile at Farnborough International Airshow 2022

The Ice Breaker, a fifth-generation long-range, autonomous, precision-guided missile system, will be unveiled by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. at the Farnborough International Airshow 2022 in the United Kingdom. It will enable significant attack performance against various high-value land and sea targets. Ice Breaker is a multi-service solution across air, land, and sea domains.

This presentation coincides with the debut of the Sea Breaker Missile, which stands in for the all-encompassing Ice Breaker on land and at sea. The Ice Breaker delivers a broad range of commonality, combining now across all domains with improved capabilities, in addition to the land and naval platform application.

Through RAFAEL’s history of advanced precision-guided technologies, Ice Breaker is an airborne force multiplier created to meet the demands of modern conflict. Ice Breaker is resistant to electronic defences and works flawlessly in arenas without GNSS.

At standoff distances up to 300 km, Ice Breaker offers surgical, pinpoint precision strike capabilities. It has a sophisticated imaging infrared seeker (IIR) perfect for engaging stationary or moving land and maritime targets in advanced anti-access/area-denial (A2/AD) domains.

Ice Breaker is fully functional in all weather conditions and is compatible with various airborne vehicles, including jet fighters, light aircraft, and helicopters. The missile’s datalink allows for mid-flight aborts and Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) capabilities, as well as real-time tactical updates and man-in-the-loop decision-making. Ice Breaker provides deep learning and large data-based scene-matching using RAFAEL’s distinctive artificial intelligence technology, enabling Automatic Target Acquisition (ATA) and Automatic Target Recognition (ATR).

With a multi-directional, coordinated complete sphere attack capability based on predetermined assault plans, according to waypoints, azimuth, impact angle, and aim-point selection, Ice Breaker has a high probability of mission success while flying at high subsonic speeds.

The standoff capabilities of high-end platforms are expanded by Ice Breaker, which turns light platforms like planes, helicopters, and ships into impressive fighting vehicles.
