The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on Thursday announced the creation of a special unit to counter challenges from China’ China Mission Center’.
Director William Burns told CIA officials on Thursday, “CMC will further strengthen our collective work on the most important geopolitical threat we face in the 21st century, an increasingly adversarial Chinese government.”
The staff of the unit will be engaged in the collection of intelligence about China and the fight against China’s espionage against the United States.
In June, US President Joe Biden had announced the formation of a new working group at the Pentagon to assess and respond to military challenges from China.
The White House administration views China as the top strategic competitor to the United States. Washington has repeatedly stated that Beijing poses the greatest threat to the United States.
